Sourdough 3 ingredient Cheese Toast

A simple 3-ingredient sourdough cheese toast consists of thick-sliced sourdough bread, butter, and your favorite melting cheese (like cheddar or Gruyere). Generously butter one side of the bread, place it in a skillet or oven (480°F) to toast, top with cheese, and heat until bubbly and golden, about 5–10 minutes.

Best Simple Sourdough Cheese Toast Methods:

  • Oven Broiler Method (Fast & Crispy):
    1. Preheat your oven broiler (around  / ).
    2. Butter one side of 2 slices of sourdough bread.
    3. Place on a baking sheet and toast for 2–3 minutes until lightly browned.
    4. Top with plenty of shredded or sliced cheese.
    5. Bake for another 3–5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling with golden patches.
  • Stovetop Method (Best Melt):
    1. Butter one side of the sourdough slices.
    2. Place one slice, buttered-side down, in a medium-heat skillet.
    3. Layer with cheese and place the second slice on top, buttered side up.
    4. Cook for 3–5 minutes until the bottom is golden, then flip and repeat, using a lid to help melt the cheese if necessary.

Tips for Success:

  • Best Cheese: Aged cheddar provides a rich flavour, but Swiss, Gruyere, and Provolone are excellent for melting.
  • Bread Prep: Use day-old or slightly dry sourdough for better absorption and crispness.

Alternative Fat: For a truly decadent crust, swap butter for mayonnaise
